Phone battery myths that still waste your money

Lithium-ion batteries age from two things: heat and time spent at very high or very low charge. Almost every battery myth traces back to those two facts.
Charging overnight is fine on any modern phone — they stop drawing current at 100% and top up in small sips. If your phone offers optimised or adaptive charging, leave it on; it holds at 80% and finishes just before your alarm.
Closing background apps does not save battery. The system already freezes them; relaunching from scratch actually costs more energy than resuming.
Occasional full discharges do not help and mild ones do not hurt. What does help: keeping the phone out of hot cars and off wireless chargers when you do not need the convenience, since both add heat.
Plan to replace the battery around year three if you keep the phone longer. It is a cheap service that makes an old phone feel new.
